Once downloaded, the individual can hop into a game with their friend. Even without an invitation, the Friend Pass can be downloaded at any time. If a player is invited to play It Takes Two, and they do not have the game, they will be taken to the Nintendo eShop where they will be able to download the Friend Pass for free. Those interested in either local wireless or online co-op can choose this option for a more cost-effective experience where both people still get to play. That is thanks to the game's Friend Pass.
The best part about It Takes Two is that only one player needs to purchase the game to get the full experience. Unfortunately, this version of It Takes Two does not have cross-platform play, meaning those on different devices can't play with someone on the Nintendo Switch. Both players will also need to create or sign in to their EA account. In both scenarios involving two Nintendo Switch devices, all a person has to do is send an invitation for a player to join them in a game. If the two players are on different Wi-Fi networks, they must each get the game on their device and then connect through Online Co-Op. If the two players are on the same Wi-Fi network and each have a Switch, each player can download the game on their devices and connect through Local Wireless Play. From here, individuals can pick their character and begin. After purchasing and booting up the game, simply connect two controllers, one for each player.
